Kids Activities at Seaport Village
Seaport Village is a waterfront complex in San Diego that offers visitors a great look into the marine history of the city. While many consider the area to be a romantic spot for walks during sunset and evening dinner dates, Seaport Village also offers many options for families and those traveling with children. If you are staying at one of the San Diego hotels near Seaport Village during your family vacation, we recommend heading to this outdoor venue during the day and checking out everything the area has to offer.
Upon arriving at Seaport Village, visit the many stores in the area. From crafts and candles to toys and clothing, there are many family friendly places to shop. You can even pick out a few items as souvenirs to commemorate your trip. There are also a variety of restaurants from sit-down dining establishments to quick to-go kiosks where younger visitors can enjoy classic kids entrees including hot dogs, pizza, chicken fingers and more.
There is also plenty of grass to enjoy at Seaport Village. Younger children can run around and are always amazed at the size of the neighboring Coronado Bridge. Kids can also fly kites along the water and watch the boats go by on a sunny day. If you’re lucky, you can catch a few of the larger ships sailing in and out of the harbor.
On the weekends, there are often many live performances and activities for kids. Stop by and watch magicians perform various tricks and volunteer to be a part of the show. Depending on the day, you might be able to catch the flame thrower, who juggles and performs amazing acrobats with torches! Other fun things for children include face painting and temporary tattoos.
Finally, there is a historic carousel which features over 20 animals for children to hop on and ride. The carousel was built in 1895 and has been refurbished and is fully operational. For a nominal fee, children can ride and watch the sites fly by. And of course, a trip to Seaport Village wouldn’t be complete without grabbing a sweet treat on the way out. Located near the Carousel are a few candy and ice cream shops where your entire family can enjoy a cool treat under the San Diego sunshine.
