San Diego Zoo Attractions for First Time Visitors
Are you planning a trip to the San Diego Zoo? Are you overwhelmed by your options for things to see and do? If so, don’t worry! Here are some of the top attractions at the zoo to help first-time visitors plan their day.
One of the first things zoo visitors may notice are the large, double-decker buses driving by. These buses offer guided tours, providing visitors with a quick and easy way to tour the zoo. The tour is included in the price of your admission and lasts approximately 35 minutes. Tours run continually throughout the day and are also available in Spanish for multilingual visitors. If this is your first time to the San Diego Zoo, hop on the tour right after you walk in. Because it covers about 70% of the zoo’s grounds, you’ll be able to plan out which exhibits you’ll want to revisit later in the day.
For those who want to see the zoo from a different (and higher) perspective, take the popular Skyfari Aerial tram. Also included in the general ticket price, the tram takes riders above the treetops. From the aerial tram, guests can get a look at the more than 100 acres of zoo grounds, and can also catch a glimpse of nearby Balboa Park. Visitors have unlimited access to the tram, making it a great way to quickly travel from one side of the zoo to the other.
After getting a ground and aerial view of the San Diego Zoo, be sure to visit the Pandas, by far the most popular animal at the zoo. The Panda exhibit is located at the back of the zoo in Panda Canyon. Panda Canyon was built to mimic the original habitat of the Panda, so don’t be surprised if you feel like you are transported into the forest as peek at the majestic black and white pandas. What makes this exhibit so unique? The San Diego Zoo Panda breeding program is one of the most renowned and successful in the world. Since the first two pandas arrived at the San Diego Zoo in 1987 from China, there have been more than 5 panda cubs born.
There are many other exhibits, shows and events to see so stop by and get a map of the zoo at the front entrance. If you are interested in additional savings during your trip to the zoo, reserve a room at the Marina Inn in downtown San Diego.
