Gaslamp Quarter Parking Information
The Gaslamp Quarter is one of San Diego’s most popular tourist destinations. If you are driving into the Gaslamp Quarter, free parking is rare; however there are many options for reasonably priced parking. Use the following information to help you save time and money when parking in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter.
If you are visiting from a more rural area and are not used to driving in a city, be aware that there are many one-way streets in the downtown district. Numbered streets run north to south with popular streets including 4th Street, 5th Street and 6th Street and lettered streets run east to west. Not all letters of the alphabet are featured with Market Street and Island Avenue separating G Street and J Street.
Options for Parking in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter
In the Gaslamp Quarter, metered street parking is available and costs $1.25 per hour. Meters are enforced until 6pm and if you are visiting on a Sunday or holiday, you are not required to pay the meter. All meters accept coins and some accept credit cards. Please keep in mind that metered street parking spots are limited and visitors should not count on much availability. In addition, if you are planning on spending the entire day in the Gaslamp, most meters have a 2 hour limit which means you will have to return and feed the meter throughout the day.
A preferred Gaslamp Quarter parking option is private lots. These lots are found throughout the downtown district and offer parking with prices ranging from $10-$30 per day. Gaslamp parking rates may be more expensive if there is a San Diego Padres game or downtown event scheduled for the day you are visiting. To collect payment, the parking lots have automated machines or attendants. If possible bring cash to pay for parking as not all lots accept credit cards.
Another final option for parking is at Horton Plaza, an outdoor shopping complex in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter. The multi-story plaza has an adjacent parking structure where Parking can be validated for up to three hours. To validate your parking, you must visit the Concierge desk inside the mall and provide a receipt showing a purchase from a store in Horton Plaza for a minimum of $10. After the mall closes at 9pm, standard parking rates for the lot will apply.
To skip the hassles and high parking fees associated with Gaslamp parking, stay at a nearby downtown San Diego hotel. This way, you can either take public transportation into the city or walk and enjoy the beautiful Southern California weather.
