Annual Events at Balboa Park in San Diego
Balboa Park is one of San Diego’s top attractions, and with the San Diego Zoo and 15 museums on its grounds it’s no surprise. Fortunately, there are also fantastic annual Balboa Park events taking place year-round so no matter when you’re visiting there is something to enjoy. Here are three of the most popular annual events in San Diego’s Balboa Park.
In April join the 60,000 visitors that attend EarthFair, one of America’s premier-and free-Earth Day celebrations. View the Cleaner Car Concourse filled with the newest alternative fuel vehicles, enjoy fabulous music, songs, and stories at one of five large stages, or enjoy great vegetarian cuisine at the many great food stands. There are also fun events for kids.
In October be prepared for the Haunted Trail of Balboa Park, the city’s only all-outdoor haunted attraction, and also one of the spookiest. It’s not for children under 10 or the faint-hearted, but if you love a good scare, you’ll definitely enjoy it.
When the holiday season comes around, there’s no place quite like December Nights at Balboa Park. This annual event takes place on the first weekend of the month. Several of the museums will be open free of charge, and visitors can enjoy live music and excellent food from around the world. In addition, the celebrated Santa Lucia procession will take place at the Plaza de California as it has for years.
