Where Can I Rent a Car at the San Diego Airport
Renting a car has become a routine part of one’s vacation plans. Having a rental car gives you the freedom and flexibility to explore the nearby attractions as you choose. If you’re planning on renting a car during your stay in San Diego, you should be aware that there are no rental car facilities at the San Diego International Airport. There are, however, many car rental companies near the airport from which to choose from.
The San Diego Airport has three terminals: the Commuter Terminal, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Upon arriving at the airport, travelers will need to go to the appropriate baggage claim.
If you need to rent a car, go to the baggage claim area between Terminals 1 and 2. Behind the baggage claim area, you’ll find a rental car kiosk. This kiosk will have the contact information for all the nearby rental companies as well as courtesy phones by which to call them. To make a reservation, simply locate your preferred rental company on the list and then call them at the number provided. If you’ve made prior reservations, you can use the courtesy phones to call the company with which you have a reservation. When you call, the rental company will send over a shuttle and pick you up at the designated location in front of the airport and drop you off at their nearest rental car location.
Visitors who aren’t interested in renting a car can still enjoy many of San Diego’s popular attractions. Weary vacationers can take a short taxi drive to one of the centrally located hotels near the San Diego Airport. The Marina Inn is located two miles from the airport in the downtown neighborhood of Little Italy. However, if you are still planning on renting a car, we offer free, private parking so you don’t have to worry about finding parking in the busy downtown district.
